Why use a Wrist Wrap While Lifting?

Walking into the gym, you would have seen the long wraps hanging around the lifter's wrists when he is walking around between sets. But do you know why they use it?
Basically, Wrist wraps are simple woven pieces of cloth or leather that loop around your wrists, making it convenient to lift or hold on to heavyweights. They are a common Fitness gear for casual gym-goers. However, these can be highly beneficial for professional bodybuilders and weight lifters or powerlifters.

Reasons to use the straps

When the lifter tightens the wrap around his wrist, the muscles tense, and make him lift the heavyweights like nothing.  So, if your goal is to enhance the size and strength of a certain muscle group in your body, then using straps will improve your ability to do so. This will help you in performing many exercises with ease.

Some examples include:

      Dumbbell or barbell rows
      Shrugs
Deadlifts (unless it's your competition lift)
      Romanian deadlifts
      Rack pulls
      Biceps Curls

All these exercises are intended to increase muscle size and strength in the upper back, traps, and hamstring. Therefore, there's no reason not to wear wrist wraps, especially if you are not able to hold on to the bar long enough to fatigue the particular muscle group.

Putting on your wrist wrap and appending them to the bar can be tricky. Wrapping procedure will differ depending on the length of the strap and where the loop is sewn.
